Mars associates lend a hand at Cippenham Junior School as part of the Mars Volunteer Programme
16th June 2011

Mars employees have been hard at work this week volunteering at Cippenham Junior School. Nine teams and over 90 employees have been in the school over the past two weeks helping on a variety of projects.

Half the teams headed indoors have helped the children with their reading skills and joined in with maths lessons, they even donned their aprons to help cook cakes for the upcoming school fete. Others took advantage of the nice weather to step outside planting flowerbeds, painting sheds and making bird boxes as well as helping with a P.E lesson.

The teams were out as part of the Mars Volunteer Programme (MVP) focus month that runs for the whole of June. The focus month aims to raise awareness of the programme and give employees the opportunity to give back to the local community and to participate during a focused timeframe.

The overall Mars in the Community programme is an integral part of Mars’ business strategy. MVP is one part of this programme, which provides opportunities for employees to reflect the values and principles of Mars, inspiring them to give back to local causes and gain a sense of pride for our business and the communities, which it supports.

Scott Wilcox, from the Commercial Department at Mars commented: ‘Volunteering is a great opportunity to get out and do something positive in the community as a Commercial team. Since volunteering at Cippenham Junior School me and my team are looking at further ways to support the school in the future.’

Jane Stubbington, Year 3 teacher at Cippenham Junior School commented: ‘It is great to get the extra support from Mars, especially for the boys who have had a male role model in today helping them with their maths.’
